Fort Macon State Park - Great historical place to explore or fish in the surf around the rock jetty or close to the coast guard station.
Cape Lookout and Lighthouse - Iconic North Carolina Lighthouse requires a ferry to get there so checkout the list of services available here

If you are looking for some suggested places to go fishing while on the island take a look at the fishing map based on spots we have fished in our visits over the years. The map is focused on spots people without kayak, paddleboard or boat would gravitate toward however many of them have some access for watercraft just scout out before going.
